Here’s another food option for Muslims staying in the Sembawang area.
A relaitvely new hawker stall at Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre is serving up gourmet burgers, steaks and putu piring.
Bege.rack opened in December last year, and is run by one Muhammad Syarafuddin.
Previously a putu piring hawker in Chong Pang
According to 8 Days, 33-year-old Muhammad Syarafuddin started out by selling rice flour cakes, known as putu piring, at a coffee shop in the Chong Pang neighborhood of Yishun.
After a disagreement with his then business partner, he decided to forge his own path by setting up his own stall selling putu piring as well as Western food like burgers, pastas and steaks.
Cooking is not new for Muhammad Syarafuddin — he previously worked as an entry-level chef at the now-closed tapas restaurant, The Stomping Ground, for a duration of two years.
He also learned the craft from his father, who was a skilled hawker specializing in putu piring.
Muhammad Syarafuddin told 8 Days that he chose to include his previous brand name, Chong Pang Putu Piring, on his new storefront to ensure that his loyal customers could easily identify them.
Menu
Bege.Rack is a creative wordplay combining “burger” and “lamb rack,” which are two of the owner’s cherished food items.
The name is a hint at what’s available in the stall’s menu, alongside the putu piring of course.
Putu Piring
The original Gula Melaka Putu Piring costs $3 for 4 pieces. Other fillings include peanut, Nutella and even durian.
The Burger Rack
The stall’s signature marinated lamb rack, pan-seared, broiled in oven to juicy, savoury perfection, cut off the bone, served with arugula leaves & a generous spread of a refreshing mint sauce.
The Caramelised Onions Cheeseburger
Handmade ground beef patties, pan-grilled to juicy perfection, served with a slice of cheddar cheese, topped off with sweet, caramelised onions, with a generous spread of creamy garlic aioli & stacked between freshly butter toasted brioche bun.
The Meatball Marinara
Al dente spaghetti swirled in rich marinara sauce served with meatballs.
The Creamy Carbonara
Al dente spaghetti swirled in creamy carbonara sauce, served with generous chicken, hotdog & ham slices.
The Lamb Rack
Their signature marinated lamb rack, pan-seared, broiled in oven to juicy & savoury perfection.
The ribeye steak
Fresh ribeye steak, pan-grilled & basted with a compound butter to your preferred doneness. Served with a side of thick-cut fries.
