Singapore based popcorn brand The Kettle Gourmet and Nintendo’s Pokémon may seem like an unlikely combo – but the two companies have recently announced a new collaboration to launch a series of Pokémon popcorn.
Beginning July 2021, all-new Pokémon-themed special edition sets based on 3 iconic Pokémon characters will be on sale.
Three iconic match-ups
To kick off the collaboration, The Kettle Gourmet has announced three iconic Pokémon characters to accompany three of their iconic popcorn flavours.
The famous characters are featured prominently on the three variants’ packaging, allowing popcorn fans to indulge in their favourite snack whilst catching Pokémon!
1. Chilli Crab feat. Charmander
First is a Charmander-themed Chilli Crab popcorn to emphasise the hot taste of one of Singapore’s most renowned dishes. Each fiery red-orange popcorn matches the Fire-type Pokémon’s personality to a T: spicy, feisty but still cute.
2. Kaya Butter Toast feat. Bulbasaur
The second variant, and other regional flavour, Kaya Butter Toast features Bulbasaur, the dual Grass-and-Poison type Pokémon.
3. Chocolate feat. Squirtle
The final popcorn is chocolate-flavoured and features the Water-type Pokémon, Squirtle. Squirtle may not be the first Pokémon we would associate with chocolate but the brown-coloured popcorn sorta matches his shell, so we’ll take it!
Legendary Pokémon special collector’s card
The Kettle Gourmet and Pokémon have released a distinctive gift box set (S$25) containing the three variants for an irresistible and unique snacking experience.
Adding to this, a special collector’s card is inside every set for fans to collect five Pokémon including the Legendary Pokémon Articuno, Zapdos, Moltress, Mewtwo and the Mythical Pokémon Mew.
Consumers will be redirected to the official online Pokédex to learn about each Pokémon by scanning the QR code on the card.
The first 10 fans who collect all five special collectors’ cards will be rewarded with assorted bundles featuring the brand’s six types of popcorn.
The Kettle Gourmet’s popcorns come in a variety of flavours from traditional versions such as Salted Caramel and Chocolate to local favourites including Chilli Crab, Chicken Floss, Nasi
Lemak and Kaya Butter Toast.
According to a media release, only 5,000 collectable sets are available in Singapore.
The popcorn is also available in a larger size of 80g, compared to the usual 65g.
