How to use ChopeDeals?
10 popular halal places that are on ChopeDeals
Now that you’ve learnt about the wallet-friendly ChopeDeals, it’s time to reward your stomachs (and souls) to some amazing food and beverages. Pick a deal that suits your budget, call a makan buddy and enjoy the gastronomic experiences at these places:
1. Suki-Suki Thai Hot Pot
The Thai hot pot brand’s second outlet at SAFRA Toa Payoh just got halal-certified recently, which means you now have two places to visit to feed your obsession for Thai food. Specifically, Thai hot pot. The restaurant certainly waves the Thailand flag proudly here; everything from the soup bases to dipping sauces and condiments features authentic flavours from the land of smiles.
This deal is available exclusively till 31 March.
2. Milk
Until the people who run Milk figure out how to put bubble tea into water coolers, we’ll just have to make do with repeat visits to their Arab Street store. Fortunately, the flavours of bubble tea at this Muslim-owned shop are absurdly creative that we’re always spoiled for choice. On a normal day, we like the Matcha Mascarpone ($6.80), but if it’s actually hot out, the Berry Cranberry Tea ($6.80) is more refreshing in the heat. If you’re feeling peckish, Milk also serves stroopwafels ($4 each) to accompany you on your Kampong Gelam walk.
3. Overrice
Another Arab Street tenant, Overrice is home to what is easily one of the best rice bowls ($9.90 – $13.90) in Singapore, inspired by The Halal Guys pushcarts in New York City. The pulled beef brisket and marinated chicken served on a bed of fragrant basmati rice will send you into a euphoric state that can only be described as “over the rice moon”. The food generally arrives pretty quickly, but you likely won’t even notice the wait time as the store’s New York aesthetics (neon lights, black and white photos of the Big Apple etc) will transport you to the concrete jungles where dreams are made of.
4. StraitsKitchen
Since borders are likely to remain close this year, you’re probably not going to travel any time soon. That’s why you should make a point to visit StraitsKitchen which is the Grand Hyatt’s upmarket take on hawker centre favourites. Because why not? Expect excellent dishes from the region like satay, ayam bakar (grilled chicken), wok fried chili tiger prawns, laksa Singapura, and a variety of tandoori and curries. The dessert menu is also well-stocked with colourful nyonya kueh, durian puffs, goreng pisang and more. Anthony Bourdain featured StraitsKitchen on his show, titled No Reservations, so if it’s good for the international celebrity chef, it’s certainly good for us.
5. The Halia at Singapore Botanic Gardens
Few halal restaurants in Singapore are as romantic and atmospheric as The Halia, a gorgeous spot situated in Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The restaurant’s rustic open-air dining area looks like a Shakespearean set, surrounded with real bushes instead of fake roses, and glasses full of herb-infused drinks instead of apothecary jars full of poison. Fusion food is the name of the game here, and halia (ginger in Malay) is omnipresent in many signature offerings like the Chilli Crab Spaghettini ($26), Paperbag Oven-baked Halibut Fillet ($33) and freshly bottled Ginger Jive ($5), a heady concoction of fruit punch, orange juice, honey and ginger juice.
6. Noosh Noodle Bar & Grill
Some places are good for a first date, some are good for family dinners, but then there’s the rare one that’s good for any occasion. That would be Noosh, a halal restaurant at the Esplanade. The food here is decidedly contemporary fusion, but that doesn’t mean your makciks can’t appreciate it at all. Impress your date with the theatrical Dome Filet Mignon Surf & Turf (pictured above, $38.90) and then your future mother-in-law with Laksam Kelantan ($16.90), a dish so rare it’s bound to earn you praise. If all else fails, there’s always Ondeh-ondeh Cake.
7. Copper Chimney
Copper Chimney is another addition to the string of exciting Indian restaurants in Syed Alwi Road, and we’re happy to discover another good North Indian option in this part of town. Whether you’ve ended up here because you have to take a lunch meeting, or just got sick of the traffic and decided to pull over and eat instead, Copper Chimney is a good choice. Palak Paneer is one of our favourite Indian dishes of all time, and Copper Chimney does the spinach curry with cottage cheese superbly well. Another must-try is the mildly spiced whole baby potatoes curry known as Dum Aloo Kashmiri. Of course, you absolutely must order naan as they are the perfect vessel to carry that rich curry sauce on.
This deal is available exclusively till 31 March.
8. Grill Ninety Nine
Grill Ninety Nine is one of the more classic Western restaurants in Arab Street, and it’s also one of the most accessible in both location – it’s 5 minutes walk from Bugis MRT – and price point. You can just as easily come here for a steak dinner as you can walk in alone for a nice fish and chips, without breaking the bank. But if you’re seeking to #treatyoself, the 4-course set meal is definitely bang for your buck, now at 33% off:
This deal is available exclusively till 31 March.
9. Kintamani Indonesian Restaurant
When we look back at our travel photos pre-Covid-19, Bali is easily one of our most favourite places that we’ve visited. Hidden in Furama RiverFront Hotel, Kintamani Indonesian Restaurant seems like a moment stuck in time with its traditional Balinese decor. If that doesn’t teleport you back to balmy Bali, the food certainly will. The buffet spread features Indonesian and Balinese classics like gado-gado, beef rendang, gulai kambing, sop ayam Bali and pulut durian pengat (glutinous rice served with durian paste). Best of all, prices for the buffet are more affordable than ever if you get these limited-time only deals:
This deal is available exclusively till 31 March.
10. Home of Seafood
Home of Seafood is an institution for seafood lovers, and for good reason. Established in 2009, it is home to a wide array of fresh catch from the sea, specifically their award-winning crab dishes cooked to your liking, whether it’s steamed, or served with chilli, butter or black pepper! Whatever you order, you absolutely must get the chilli crab and black pepper crab because no one else moves buckets of crabs quite like them. Strap on a bib and get those crackers ready, you’ve got work to do.
