North Bridge Road, one of Singapore’s most iconic locations for halal food, is getting a new French restaurant The White Label (TWL). It will open to the public tomorrow (December 24).
It seems like halal French-inspired eateries are having a moment in 2020, with The Wonderment Collective giving us Parisian chic vibes and Poulet doubling it down with halal certification for all its outlets.
Similarly, The White Label will feature French comfort foods and flavourful dishes from the city of lights, albeit with some local twists.
French-Malayan fusion
According to its Google page, The White Label aims to “transport you to the magical city of lights, treating you to French-Malayan fusion cuisine, made Halal and infused with local flavours.”
The menu is expected to feature French classics like fish frites, lyonnaise salad, duck confit, and short ribs bourguignon, as well as fusion mash-ups like Ondeh-Ondeh Gateau and Squid Ink Spaghetti which uses ‘sotong masak hitam’ sauce.
Here are some food items in the menu:
Lobster Bisque (S$14)
Mussels Marinere
French Contre-Filet (S$28)
Herb Crusted Lamb Rack (S$38)
Salmon Beurre Blanc (S$28)
Squid Ink Spaghetti (S$26)
TWL Prawn Pappardelle (S$26)
Drinks at TWL
Besides the usual coffees and soft drinks, TWL also has a selection of bespoke mocktails (S$9 each) and teas by the pot (S$9 each) that feature concoctions made primarily of fruits and flowers.
We wager a guess that the drinks menu has been curated to complement the food at TWL.
Here are some of the drinks:
Mango Fraise (S$9)
Seri Kaya Tea (S$9)
Rose Vanilla Tea (S$9)
Iced Chocolate (S$8.50)
Desserts at TWL
Of course, what’s a French restaurant without its confections? To end your meals on a sweet note, select from a range of desserts that look as fancy and elegant as their names.
Here are some of the desserts on the menu:
Tarte Au Citron Vert (S$11)
Tres Berries Souffle Pancake
Located on North Bridge Road
TWL is located along the stretch of halal eateries that dot the shophouses on North Bridge Road such as the relatively new Hajjah Mariam Cafe and several food concepts by The Black Hole Group.
Whilst TWL is best accessed from the Sultan Mosque side of the road, you might still walk past without noticing it as there doesn’t seem to be any visible signage.
However, if you are coming from the other side, you will be able to notice The White Label signboard easily on the building’s exterior.
On the inside, TWL seems to adopt a classy design aesthetic featuring marble-esque tables and countertops, gold hardware and fixtures and plush velvet chairs.
If you are looking to impress a date, TWL sure seems like a good place to visit. If not, bookmark the place anyway for the next time you ask yourself “Where to find halal French food in Singapore ah?”
