The management of popular local restaurant company The Malayan Council has another new concept that is officially open today (October 12) in Kampong Glam.
The affable restaurateur and owner Hafiz Alkhatib has a history of knowing how to set a vibe within the city’s halal dining scene.
The Fortune Cookie, his latest effort, is a charming, 100-seater restaurant situated at 11 Bussorah Street, just across sister restaurant The Malayan Council.
Chinese concept restaurant
Whilst The Malayan Council is known for its innovative Malay cuisine, The Fortune Cookie represents Chinese food influences in its menu.
The new eatery seems to appeal to well-heeled customers including corporate clientele who seeks halal dining options.
Here are some dishes you can expect:
Peking Duck Wanton Noodle
Lobster Fried Rice
Hainanese Chicken Chop
Superior Fish Maw & Dumpling Soup
The extensive menu also features saliva-inducing dishes like Beef Ribs Bak Ku Teh, Truffle Chicken Rice, Lobster Laksa, Char Kay Teow Kobe and more.
Desserts are equally interesting with options such as Black Glutinous Rice Panna Cotta, Lemongrass Pudding and Soursop Creme Brulee taking centrestage at the end of a meal.
End meals on a whimsical note
Inspired by the crispy cookie that enfolds a message, The Fortune Cookie also hands out one to every customer before they leave.
The messages include blessings, whimsical phrases as well as proverbs translated from Malay which hope to serve as a conversation starter when dining with patrons across diverse cultures.
